Welte-Mignon Advertisements Collection
Edited by Niels Pfeffer, University of Tübingen
This is a collection of mostly print advertisements for the Welte-Mignon reproducing piano, encoded in TEI. Work is still in progress. The project was created as part of my PhD project "Grünfelds Geist" at the University Tübingen which considers piano rolls as objects of a digital edition. It can be accessed here.
Choice of Material
The present collection includes advertisements, which:
- appear in print publications between 1905 and 1930
- advertise the Welte-Mignon reproducing piano
- are published by M. Welte & Sons, by one of its licensees, or by a dealer or agent selling the instrument.
At present, the collection holds 209 advertisements in 470 printings from 1905 to 1930. Each advertisement is transcribed from one of its printings; the others are listed as further sources. How the advertisements were found, transcribed and annotated is described in the Guidelines.
